UFC Heavyweight Champion‘s Coach Pablo Castro looks to Fight to Win against Alzheimer’s.

UFC Heavyweight Champ Stipe Miocic and Top UFC prospect Jessica Eye are coached by Cleveland Magistrate Pablo Castro of Team Strong Style

 

(Independence, Ohio) – Strong Style Mix Martial Arts (MMA) Team announces head grappling instructor Pablo Castro and Top UFC prospect Jessica Eye are scheduled to compete at Fight to Win Pro 32 in Cleveland on April 21. Fight to Win is a Pro Grappling/ Submission combat sport based out of California. The Fight to Win organization has hosted some of the best martial artists in the world.

In an event with over thirty bouts, including UFC star Jessica Eye and Pablo Castro, North Olmstead’s Soccer Sportsplex, 31515 Lorain Rd, is expected to be sold out.  Jessica Eye will be facing Nikki Sullivan from Indiana. Pablo Castro, will be the co-main event; matched against Chicago Black Belt and leader of New Breed Academy, Mark Vives.

Pablo A. Castro, III, is the Head Grappling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Instructor for Strong Style. Mr. Castro is an accomplished collegiate wrestler and BJJ Black Belt World Champion. Mr. Castro is a former Cleveland and County Assistant Prosecutor. He is currently a Magistrate Judge in Cleveland Municipal Court, and ran as the Democratic Party endorsed candidate for a 2016 judicial campaign for Cuyahoga County Common Pleas.

The promotion will generously donate a portion of every ticket purchased to the Alzheimer’s Association. Pablo Castro said, “On April 21st, I will compete on behalf of my mother and all those who suffer or have suffered from this horrible disease.”  Castro’s mother, Petra Castro passed away from early onset Alzheimer’s in 2014, and he is a former trustee of the Cleveland Area Chapter Alzheimer’s Association. Castro says, “Mark Vives will be a very tough challenge. However, I am fighting more than just Vives, I am fighting to help reclaim the future for millions.  I am fighting to raise awareness and assistance for Alzheimer’s research, care and support.”

Dear Community Leaders,

Greetings to all of you! It is my honor to extend a invitation for two events coming up in collaboration with, El Centro, Mercy and Lorain City Schools.

·        On Thursday April 20, in collaboration with Mercy Health Ministry / Parish Nursing Program, we will be offering a Health Screening from 9:30am to 12:00.  Also, Chef Nick Rapitis, Director of Mercy Nutrition Services, and Shirley Lahey, RD, LD, will be conducting a cooking demonstration and taste testing from 11:00am to 1:00pm.  Stop by and support the event and try some of the amazing food!  This event will be at El Centro, 2800 Pearl Ave, Lorain, Ohio 44055.  We will have interpreters.

·        On Tuesday April 25, Lorain City Schools will be conducting a bilingual 2017 State of the School Address.  This event is a testimony to the commitment of Superintendent Dr. Graham and his administration to partner with the Latino community.  Presentation will be bilingual with a focus on Spanish.  The event start at 8:30am at the Lorain High School Gymnasium, 2600 Ashland Avenue, Lorain.  We ask that those planning to attend RSVP at 440-830-4082 or mnmendez@loraincsd.org .  I hope to see you all there.  (Later the same day Dr. Graham will be conducting the 2017 State of the School in English - find more information on their website.)

LCCC Hosts Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Event

Lorain County Community College will host a Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention event from noon to 1 p.m. on April 20 at College Center Commons.

Melissa Counts, sexual assault and abuse advocate at the Nord Center will provide important, up-to-date information on sexual assault that everyone needs to know. The presentation is sponsored by LCCC’s Campus Security, Human Resources and Women’s Link.

The program will include the definition of consent, myths and facts about sexual assault, advocacy services available and more.

 

The Clothesline Project will also be displayed to help increase awareness of this on-going community crisis. Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

 

The event is free and open to the public. Reservations are appreciated for individuals and required for groups. Call Women’s Link at (440) 366-4035 for more information or to RSVP.

LCCC Hosts Yoga and Zumba GLOW Workouts

Lorain County Community College’s Health, Physical Education and Recreation program will host GLOW yoga from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, April 27 and GLOW Zumba 7-8 p.m. Friday, April 28.

For the yoga course, Diana Jancura will lead participants of all levels through this energizing and alignment-based yoga which focuses on foundational poses in the physical education building in room 105. The next night, Renee and Lisa will lead heart pumping, hip shaking and body rocking ZUMBA complete with black lights and GLOW sticks in the gym.

Prizes will be awarded for the person who brings the most guests and for the best costume (attendants must wear white or clothes that glow).

The cost is a $10 suggestion donation for admission or $15 for both admission and GLOW t-shirt to benefit Kristy’s Classes.

The event is open to the public ages 13 and up.
